Spears School students participate in national information technology case competition

STILLWATER, Okla. - For the first time, the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University was represented at the 2009 International Telecommunications Education and Research Association Conference case competition by a team of four graduate students. The conference was held April 18-20 in Atlanta.

Graduate students Fernando Mayorga, Mihir Parkar, Pramoda Bangalore S. and Kinjal Hate represented OSU in the contest. They earned the chance to participate by winning the inaugural Spears School Information Technology Executive Interaction Case Competition for graduate students. As the first place team, the students were awarded $250 in business apparel, the chance to participate in the national competition and a trip to the ITERA conference.

"The ITERA conference covered current research performed by the member universities," Mayorga said. "It was great to get to know other professors and students from similar programs."

The ITERA is a nonprofit academic organization committed to the advancement of telecommunications science through excellence in research and education. ITERA seeks to advance telecommunications science through the creation of multiple forums for telecommunications and networking professionals, educators and researchers.

In addition to the case competition, the national ITERA conference also included paper presentations from students across the country, speakers from widely recognized companies such as Verizon and AT&T, a paper competition and technology competitions.

"It was a great networking opportunity and learning experience," Mayorga said. "Hearing presentations from researchers and industry professionals fulfills the need for out-of-class experience and certainly prepares the student to become a more wholesome professional in the job market."
