Release_SIFEregionalcontest_photo1STILLWATER, Okla. - A team of Oklahoma State University students earned first-runner-up honors in their league in the Chicago regional Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Overall Competition on April 2.

OSU students Chris Miller, Matt Johnson, Loretta Ejakpomewhe and Cory Steward represented OSU at the event.

The SIFE Overall Competition provides SIFE teams with the opportunity to compete against each other and ultimately determine which team had the most impact improving the quality of life and standard of living for members of its community through educating others about the six SIFE educational topics: Market Economics, Success Skills, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, Environmental Sustainability and Business Ethics.

Forty teams from across the country participated in the regional contest.

"It felt tremendous to place in such a competitive event," said Jeremiah Cole, the incoming president of OSU's SIFE chapter.

In addition to the presentation team, four other students and the SIFE faculty advisor, Joyce Montgomery, attended the event. The OSU Student Government Association and Business Student Council in the Spears School of Business funded the trip.

"SIFE is an international network of student, academic and business leaders who have made a commitment to create a better world with better leaders," Steward said. "Working in partnership with businesses and higher education, SIFE mobilizes university students around the world to use the knowledge they gain in the classroom to address real world business and economic issues in their communities."

Cole said the team already is working to improve their projects for next year's competition.

"We will take the projects we took to competition this past year and try to execute them better," Cole said. "We also will have an extended recruiting period to look for new members who are competitive and love a challenge."

If you are interested in becoming involved with SIFE, please contact Cole at cjerema@okstate.edu.
